Medieval Societies

Term 1, 2012

Medieval Europe Project Based Learning Task

This link is the first task based on Multiple Intelligences and Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy. We had further details in the students’ copies, to assist them in understanding the process of project-based learning frameworks.

The initial process took lots of explanation and reiteration, but the students did us proud and produced some excellent research-based, creative representations of Medieval Societies.

MEDIEVAL CLOTHING

A PowerPoint to engage student thought and discussion of clothing from the Medieval period. The students needed to consider how they would be dressing for the Medieval Feast Day.

  1. This term I have accomplished lots of work and goals. I think I have worked quite well and hard. I have completed every task I have been given. The Smarts (Gardiner’s Multiple Intelligences) were something which helped alot with what tasks I chose and how I thought about doing it. I tried to do everything to the best of my ability.
The benefits of working as a part of a team were that if you were struggling with something, someone would try to help as much as they could. Medieval Europe was great compared to what we used to think it was.
My tasks were to design what weapons were used in a medieval siege and to label a knight’s amour from the head to the toe. The knight’s amour project showed me that the amour was very difficult to produce by the castle’s blacksmith.
In conclusion, learning about Medieval Europe was great and good fun!

  2. In my group, we received the Medieval Project and the four of us together managed to finish and complete the six parts we were set. The parts of our assignment included a brilliantly painted and descriptive shield, a challenging board game, a very musical song, a beautiful painting depicting a castle, and an interesting speech. We completed all of this with dedication and focus.
I believe that we used Gardiner’s Smarts categories to our advantage as no one in our group has the same learning ability. Everyone was distributed something different which helped us have a lot of variety in our assignment.
We benefited immensly by working as a team. This meant that no one had more responsibility than anyone else and everyone had an equal amount of work to do. The result depended on how much effort we all put in as to the level of work that was achieved, which I think was very high.
I learnt alot about castles and weapons and particularly a lot about King Arthur, as he was the main part of my set assignment. It was Music Smart in the creating category.

  3. For this project, my group accomplished several things including: working together; learning about Medieval Europe; and creating strong friendships.
When addressing my Smarts, I decided to choose something that I was good at and knew a little about. I went for Music Smart. I have always loved music, either listening to it, making music, or writing it, so I thought that I would use this to my advantage.
In this task I chose to write and perform a song which was about a man who longed to be with his special lady (Diana).
The benefits of working as a team was that we could help each other with simple things that we didn’t get or understand. We also had a lot of fun and enjoyed each others company. This made it easier to get along and finish the task.
The things that I learnt about Medieval Europe was that they wore different clothes to us, they spoke in a different way to us, they lived differently to us, and I learnt alot about kingdoms where the people lived.
